HiPiHi in Open Beta

More news worth breaking purdah to announce: Thanks to the indefatigable SuezanneC Baskerville for bringing news that Hipihi is now in open beta.

English signup page is at http://service.hipihi.com/member/register/en/register.jhtml

English info page is at http://www.hipihi.com/index_en.html

An English language forum for Hipihi users is at www.ideashape.cn

There is also a new version of the HiPiHi client, downloadable here. It's a 68MB download, and on my connection it's coming down at around 120KB/s, with an estimated load time of around 10 minutes.

If you want English Language versions of the documentation, I think you might still need to go here. You probably need to set your computer's language settings too. As described by SuezanneC (for Windows XP):

  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Control Panel, and then click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options.
  2. Click the Regional and Language Options icon, and then click the Languages tab.
  3. In the Supplemental languages support box, check the box for Install East Asian Languages.
  4. Click Apply and OK.

And if someone knows how I can get my arrow keys to work (again) I would be grateful!

HiPiHi is really starting to intrigue me. It looks nice, is probably a good fresh start amidst SL troubles and may even have a cheaper economy to enter into if I imagine the Sterling > Dollar > Yuan triangle properly. But does it have soul, the people, and the ability to prop marionette crosses above my head? I'll have to wait and see. :)

Broadly speaking, as it bears a strong resemblance to SL, you will indeed be able to construct marionette crosses, and anything else you require.

However, to do so you may have to master Mandarin - the UI has changed quite a bit since the English version was done.

At the last count, there were 49 people inworld.

Al - use you AWSD keys to move. That is far as I have figured out so far!

Hi Hathead

I already know about the WASD keys - and F to fly/stop flying too - and a few more, in fact. Point is, Arrow keys are supposed to function - and some actions require them. I just don't seem to get mine recognised, tho I'm sure they used to work in a far earlier version of HiPiHi.

Hi, I have never been able to get it to work as I constantly crash. I use Vista French.. I think my video settings may need to be adjusted within the program itself but no idea how to edit preferences since everything is in Chinese! Helpppp please? Thanks. :-)

Vryl, sadly I don't have an answer for you - and I have also had problems connecting in recent months.

I would suggest you try Suezanne Baskerville's blog. It has a lot of good info on the various Chinese virtual worlds - and how to set them up!

Vyrl: take a look at www.altoxeno.com where there are some details about installing and setting preferences to make hipihi work on an English language PC, as well as information about using the interface to move around, teleport and create location bookmarks.
